What is an App Store refund rate?
An App Store refund rate is the share of completed purchases, or of purchase revenue, that customers got back through Apple or Google Play refunds in a given period. Tracking both the count and revenue versions shows whether refunds cluster on expensive plans.
How do I calculate my app refund rate?
Divide refunded purchases by completed purchases for the count-based rate, and divide refunded revenue by gross purchase revenue for the revenue rate. Use the same period and the same report for both numbers, such as App Store Connect sales and trends or Google Play Console financial reports.
Does a refund also return the platform fee?
In general, yes. When Apple or Google refunds a customer, the store reverses the developer proceeds for that sale rather than charging the developer the full price, so your real loss is the refunded amount after the platform fee. Check your store agreement for exceptions.
What platform fee should I enter?
Many developers pay 15% through Apple's Small Business Program, Google Play's first $1M tier, or on subscriptions after the first year, and 30% on other digital sales. Use your effective blended rate if you have a mix.
Is this calculator accounting advice?
No. It is planning guidance for sizing refund exposure. Use your official store financial reports and an accountant for revenue recognition, taxes, and reconciliation.
